Beekeeper for a Day Experience – In Stamford Lincolnshire

£105.00 inc VAT

On selected dates throughout the year, we open up our apiary site for our hugely popular, exclusive experience days.

FUN-FILLED & HANDS ON

Awarded the Green Tourism gold award, join us at our honey farm  for a unique, up-close and personal tour of our honeybees, and a day in the life of a beekeeper…

“Thank you for a lovely day – the day was brilliant, relaxed atmosphere in extraordinary surroundings. Really had a lot of fun.” Alison

Our experience days begin at 10am and run to approximately 2pm, here on our bee farm on the grounds of the amazing Burghley House Estate in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

It’s a fun-filled, hands-on, day which involves:

  • a short discussion about why pollinators like the honeybee are important in your own garden or outside space and how simple it is to help.
  • a look at the day’s jobs, which could include: helping to build new beehives; checking the health of our bees; equipment maintenance; building wax frames; preparing to extract honey; helping to rear queen bees; painting new hives; feeding colonies… it’s always varied.
  • we’ll provide you with a beekeeper suit for the day so you can enjoy a guided tour of a working beehive – marvel at the bees as they work and learn how to spot the hive’s queen. If you’re lucky you may see bees being born and possibly even a “waggle dance”, too!

“Thank you for a fabulous day; we really enjoyed the whole experience. Everything was exceptional, your knowledge, the refreshments, the build your own pizza’s, the honey. Just loved it all.” Kim and Carl

You’ll be hands-on helping to inspect the colonies; taking photos, recording video and keeping records as our beekeepers explain what they are looking for, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Then we head back for lunch and a chance to ask further questions or purchase some honey.

UP-CLOSE WITH THE BEES

Beekeeping is dependent on the weather and the jobs required at the time of the year that you visit. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee what specific beekeeping elements your day will include but we always try to ensure you get to inspect a beehive. When the weather is too cold or wet to inspect the bees, we have many of our own video clips to show.

OUR EXPERIENCE DAYS ARE ALL-INCLUSIVE

We’ll provide you with everything you need, including lunch, bee keeping suits and gloves for the day. Bring a pair of wellies or sturdy boots with you, and please do not wear perfume or cologne as strong scents can cause problems for the bees. Do not drink alcohol the evening prior to attending. All delegates will be required to sign a declaration in order to take part in the day’s activities.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

We are actively trying to help the environment, so all workshop confirmations and supporting information will be emailed to you, including a reminder the week before the workshop with details and directions .
