'Beekeeper for a Day' One-to-One Exclusive Gift Experience
The ultimate experience day gift...
Our 'Beekeeper for a Day' one-to-One Exclusive Gift Experience is something really special - we'll send you a gift experience voucher, beautifully presented in its own box, hand tied with ribbon for you to give to the recipient, which gives details on how to book their day.
We make just 6 exclusive one-to-one gift experiences available per year, on selected days from late March to September.
Awarded the Green Tourism gold award, join us for a unique, up-close, personal tour of our honeybees and spend a day in the life of a bee farmer...
You'll be the only person accompanying our beekeeper for the whole day and we'll begin by taking you for a guided tour of the gardens to explain the planting schemes we have created for an almost entirely pollinator-friendly site and why considering pollinators like the honeybee are important in your own garden. The day begins at 10am and runs to approximately 4.30pm, here on our organic farm just 4 minutes from Market Deeping and 18 minutes from Peterborough train station in Lincolnshire.
You'll be hands-on helping to inspect the hives, take photos and record video and keep records as our beekeeper explains what they are looking for. There's no such thing as a typical day in the life of a bee farmer but it can include checking hives for needed repairs and maintenance, preparing new hives, moving colonies, painting hive parts, making up frames, jarring honey and keeping on top of the many jobs of a busy working bee farm.
You'll learn how bees make different flavoured honey and enjoy a special honey tasting session - a delicious way to learn about and taste a selection of different honey as unique as the areas the bees forage in.Some days may involve traveling in our truck to apiaries off-site.
You'll shadow a bee farmer for the whole day, seeing the bees at work and helping to care for them, including a whole range of activities with the whole day to ask questions and learn one on one.
Beekeeping is dependent on the weather and the jobs required at the time of the year that you visit. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee what specific elements your day will include but it is normally a full and fairly physical day, too.
Your day includes unlimited organic, home grown and local refreshments and a full ploughman's lunch provided, with a whole hour to rest up over lunch and enjoy the gardens (and play with the farm's dogs if you wish!). You'll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions before heading home with a goodie bag as a memento of your day.
OUR EXPERIENCE DAYS ARE ALL-INCLUSIVE:
We'll provide you with everything you need, including unlimited refreshments, lunch and a bee keeping suit for the day. Bring a pair of wellies or sturdy boots but please do not wear perfume or cologne as strong scents can cause problems for the bees. Do not drink alcohol prior to attending. You will be required to sign a declaration in order to partake in the day’s activities.
HELP US TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT:
If you're able to use public transport (we're just 18 minutes from Peterborough and Stamford train stations), cycle or have an electric car, use promo code ECO10 to save £10! You'll need to show us your train ticket, taxi receipt (or bicycle!) when you arrive.
PLACES ARE LIMITED TO JUST 1 PERSON PER DAY:
Suitable for ages 16+. Under 16s are welcome but must be accompanied by a paying adult (aged 18+). We will contact you to offer a variety of dates on all days of the week and arrange a mutually convenient day to work with our beekeepers from March to September.
