Awarded the Green Tourism gold award, join us on our organic farm for this exclusive one day workshop.
This workshop is for beginner beekeepers - ideally you will have your own bees, may have attended our Beekeeping for Beginners workshop or be helping to look after bees with someone else.
Since we launched our Beekeeping for Beginners workshop we have received so many request from delegates wanting to return to the farm to learn more and for us to run another workshop. Well, the wait is over!...
Our Beekeeping Next Steps workshop is still lots of funbut takes a more detailed look at how to care for your bees safely, competently and confidently.
After welcome refreshments and an opportunity to say hello to your fellow workshop students, it's time for the detail...
DISEASE:we'll be covering in much more detail the ever-common diseases of the honey bee ensuring you know how to spot, treat and prevent them in your own bees. Using a combination of exclusive photos, videos and our own experience, we'll share practical methods of controlling disease and what to do when it all goes wrong.
BEEKEEPER: beekeeping should be fun but there is a maze of information available so we'll honestly share the pros and cons of various methods and equipment, helping you to decipher the most practical and safest ways to approach beekeeping.
PRACTICAL: we'll be hands-on with some of the hives here to demonstrate efficient and practical methods for handling and inspecting your bees to ensure smooth, stress-free beekeeping. You'll have opportunity to handle the bees to brush up on your handling skills and confidence.
Q&A: perhaps the most valuable part of the workshop will be a question and answer session in an 'open clinic' style: an opportunity for you to share any existing challenges, concerns or knowledge gaps - expect practical, efficacious solutions.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the day.
This workshop is taught by Jez:
Jez heads up Bees for Business from our small award-winning farm on the Cambridgeshire/Lincolnshire border. Beekeepers for some of the most iconic brands in Britain, including Burghley House, Jez and his team care for bees and provide honey for businesses including hotels, restaurants and stately homes. Jez is an ethical, artisan beekeeper currently studying the Master Beekeeper program with Cornell University, passionate about encouraging more people to discover the exciting and beneficial hobby of beekeeping. He has learnt from some of the most widely-respected and experienced bee farmers and bee keepers, is co-lead on a native British bee breeding programme and is invited to talk worldwide on honeybees and beekeeping.
OUR COURSES ARE ALL-INCLUSIVE:
We'll provide you with everything you need, including unlimited locally sourced, home grown and organic refreshments, an organic pizza lunch cooked in our outdoor, wood-fired pizza oven and bee keeping suits for the day. You are welcome to bring your own beekeeping suit but it must have been cleaned and unworn since. You'll leave with plenty of notes and resources, including a digital download of the disease presentation and courtesy of BJ Sherriff, the leading supplier of beekeeping clothing, an exclusive 25% discount code for anything in their online store from beekeeper suits, gloves and equipment, too. Bring a pair of wellies or sturdy boots with you but please do not wear perfume or cologne as strong scents can cause problems for the bees. Do not drink alcohol prior to attending. All delegates will be required to sign a declaration in order to partake in the day’s activities.
